Outdoor Fall / Winter Programs

Learning and writing about the Rockies has been a natural segue into the world of outdoor guiding. But my own experience has taught me that mountain guiding isn't something to be taken lightly. It requires specialized skills and knowledge to ensure enjoyment, and above all, safety. That’s something I’ve dedicate myself to for many years.

“Your expertise, understanding and support were phenomenal. I learned so much from you—flora, fauna, hiking tips, and more. You are truly awesome. Many thanks!”

– Adelle

Now, as a year-round, multi-certified guide, I hope to share the same passion for the outdoors with guests and students as I have with my readers.

“Lynda, you’re an inspiration! Your stories were wonderful too. Thanks for making it memorable.”

– Gloria

I specialize in three areas: Cross-Country Ski Instruction, Homeschool Nature Programs, and Interpretive Guiding for walking, hiking, and snowshoeing.

So lace up those boots, skis or snowshoes, and let’s go explore the Rockies… at your pace!

Cross Country Skiing Lessons in Banff

Cross-Country Ski Instruction

The power and serenity of the Rockies in winter is breathtaking, and cross-country skiing is one of the best ways to take it all in. So if you don’t migrate or hibernate, you may as well enjoy it.

I’ve been cross-country skiing for many years and know it’s great fun for families and groups, whether you’re after a gentle trek or a spirited workout.

I can provide family, semi-private, and private lessons for groups of up to 8 people. I taught the Jack Rabbit Ski program, which has a minimum age of 6, but I have taught younger, so please contact me to discuss.

Here is a sample of one of my lesson offerings.

Beginner Group Lessons

These lessons are for beginner to novice skiers. You’ll learn the basics of gliding, striding, stopping, falling and getting up, and I’ll show you how to get down those challenging hills!

5 hours total, max 8 people per class

$65 per person

When & Where

Lessons are held weekdays and Sundays at several locations within Kananaskis: Pocaterra in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, or on the trails around Kananaskis Village. Want to ski in Banff National Park? I also have trail permits for Pipestone and several trails around Lake Louise. Please note locations and times are heavily dependent on weather and snow conditions.

Participants must provide their own transportation, clothing and gear. If you require gear, I can suggest rental options in Calgary and Canmore.

Interpretive Guiding Snoeshoeing Banff

Interpretive Guiding - Snowshoeing Winter 2019

My guides and I bring many years’ of knowledge and experience to guiding private and semi-private snowshoes trips in the Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis and Lake Louise area.

But first, what exactly is an Interpretive Guide?

Simply put, an Interpretive Guide has training in how to communicate the natural environment and history of the area, as well as the technical skills to safely take clients out on a trail. As a 10-year-old once said to me, "I’ve hiked this trail before, past everything you talked about, and I learned way more today than ever."
